How to execute an Eagle Project

Eagle Scout Requirement #5

Eagle Scout Requirement #5 - While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community. (The project must benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting.) A project proposal must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, your unit leader and unit committee, and the council or district before you start. You must use the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook, No. 512-927, in meeting this requirement.

What is an Eagle Project and why do it?

An Eagle project is a way to demonstrate the leadership qualities that is expected of a boy who desire to hold the Eagle rank.  This is demonstrated by executing a project designed to benefit the community.

How do you find an Eagle project?

Website – okscouts.org under programs-boy scouts-eagle scouts-eagle project ideas
Troop – ask leaders if they know of any worthy project ideas
Chartered Organization – ask your leaders if they can put you in contact with the correct people within your troop’s chartered organization
School – ask your teachers or principal if they know of any projects within your school grounds
Church – ask your church leaders if they know of any project ideas

What is an Eagle project coach and why are they essential to the process.

An Eagle project coach is a registered leader who serves as a guide to the scout and assists them in making sure the project follows scout guidelines.  This person does not necessarily serve as your mentor in the execution of the project, this can be done by any adult who has the skill set required in carrying out your project (i.e. a contractor for building projects)
